LATEST NEWS ON THE
SEARCH FOR A NEW RECTOR
November 23, 2009
Over the last six months, we have, as a
parish family, reached a renewed sense of purpose and stability. We, along
with our Interim, The Reverend William Eddy and in consultation with the
diocese, are beginning to lay the groundwork for “a short search” process.
Across the diocese, many parishes in transition have developed their parish
profiles in a matter of weeks through an innovative process involving the
whole congregation. In January, we will begin this process called
“appreciative inquiry” from which we will develop a one-page profile.
Depending on what we discern from our profile and what we determine is our
present and future financial situation, the search committee will request
from the diocese a list of suitable candidates. Our “short search” may well
result in our being able to call a priest by the spring. This is a
significant change from the path we initially set out upon. However, in
thinking of Trinity’s future, we do not want to limit ourselves to
candidates who are only looking for a three-year “Priest-in-Charge”
commitment. We have realized by calling a rector, we can increase the number
of candidates as well as the type of commitment a candidate might be able to
make. We have nothing to lose in choosing to be flexible, and the initial
process of creating a profile will be interesting, instructive, and
ultimately important to our being able to call the right person to Trinity.
It is certain that God knows what is best for Trinity, and in discerning
God’s purpose the vestry believes that the search process, which it is
proposing, accomplishes this end in a wonderful and fulfilling way. |
