Healing Ministry

Is any one of you in trouble? He should pray. Is anyone happy? Let him sing songs of praise. Is any one of you sick? He should call the elders of the church to pray over him and anoint him with oil in the name of the Lord. And the prayer offered in faith will make the sick person well; the Lord will raise him up. If he has sinned, he will be forgiven. - James 5: 13 – 15.

The purpose of the Healing Ministry here at Trinity is two-fold. First, it is obedience in that God has told us that we should pray for healing. (see James 5: 13-15 above)  The second is that the receiving of the body and blood of Our Lord Jesus Christ is a healing thing in itself.  So the flow from the communion rail to the Healing Station feels quite natural. Also, this is a time when folks reflect and meditate -- a perfect setting for the prayerful nature of the Healing Station.

The Healing Station is available during the service, immediately after communion, for all who wish to receive prayer for healing. To have healing as part of the regular service opens it up to many, many people in the parish. Those who do not want to venture out at night or at another time can partake, and folks can “SEE” what it is all about from the safety of their pew before “trying” it themselves.

You may go to the Healing Station on your own behalf or on behalf of another person. The minister of this sacrament will ask only your name or the name of the person you carry loving concern for. They will lay their hands on your forehead as they anoint you with oil and say a short prayer. At its best, the presence of this healing station will keep us ever mindful of the way God calls each of us to be whole inwardly and outwardly. Seeking spiritual avenues to address the wellness of our heart, body and mind are always meant to complement and not replace the advice, counsel, and treatment we receive from health professionals. May this ministry be to all of us a sign of God’s own compassionate presence being lived out in our midst.

This is a lay ministry. It is scriptural. Anyone who feels called can participate. If anyone is interested in joining us as a healing minister please feel free to speak to the rector or any member of the healing team.  (Contact information here.) No experience is required -- just a love of our God and the awareness that God wants us to be whole in mind, body and spirit.
