Our Sunday School program has Sunday morning classes
for children age 3 years through High School. Classes are broken
down into the following groups: Preschool/kindergarten, 1-3rd grade,
4-6th grade, middle school, and high school. (We also have a
separate Cribbery for children under 3
years of age.)

For the 2011-2012 Sunday School year, all classes
will meet at 9:00 AM, the same time as the Rite II Service. Classes
meet for approximately 45 minutes. The teachers and children/youth
will return to church for communion. New this year: Grades 1-8 will
be using the Living The Good News curriculum . The
Preschool/Kindergarten class will continue to use Godley Play
program (read more about Godly Play below).

There are many volunteer opportunities with
various time commitments. Please feel free to contact Rachel Flum or
Donna Gibson, our Sunday School Superintendents for more information
or to volunteer.
GODLY PLAY AT
TRINITY
We have begun an exciting new era in
the religious education of our children with the introduction of
Godly Play to our pre-K through 1st grade class. Godly Play,
developed by Jerome T. Berryman, an educator and Episcopal priest,
is theological education modeled on the principles of the Montessori
method of education. Since its beginnings in the early 1970s it has
spread throughout the world and across Christian denominations. The
curriculum, designed for children from 2 to 12, will be introduced
in the other classes over the next few years.
Godly Play invites children into the
sacred story of God’s relationship with the world and humanity. The
invitation is issued through sacred storytelling shared with a
respectful adult presence and uses creative materials for both
telling and responding to the story. For example, if the story takes
play in the desert, we’ll use our ‘desert box’ to move figures
through the sand as the story progresses. Much of each story asks
questions, many of which start with “I wonder…” Moments of
reflection and sacred silence are integral to the lesson. After the
story children choose art materials that they’d like to work with.
This is their opportunity to work with the story in a different way
before sharing a simple snack at the end of the class. The children
then process into the main church during the offertory to join their
families and the rest of the congregation in the celebration of the
Eucharist.
